The Northcote City Soccer Club celebrated their 50th anniversary with a gala ball on Saturday night.
Hosted by Costas Kilias, more than 400 people attended the celebration at the Regal Ballroom in Northcote.
Northcote City Soccer Club President, Jim Makrozahopoulos, said the night was a wonderful success.
“I would like to thank everyone for attending, particularly delegates from other club's including South Melbourne, Heidelberg United, Richmond, Port Melbourne, Malvern, FC Clifton Hill, Doncaster Rovers and Brunswick City, as well as the committee and volunteers that helped make it a night to remember.”
Not only was the night a chance for old friends to catch up and celebrate the club’s milestone, Northcote City Soccer Club also recognised past President’s contribution to the club, and announced their 50th Anniversary All Star Team.
The 29 former Presidents were recognised as pioneers of the club, and received a memento from the occasion.
John Belessis, who served the club as President from 1966-1970 and has seen the club grow over the last five decades, was a guest speaker.
Current Head Coach, Peter Tsolakis also delivered a stirring speech, describing the camaraderie that exists at Northcote City, and asked all supporters to continue to stick by the club.
He also spoke in glowing terms of current players George Papadopoulos, Harry Kinigopoulos, and former charges Jerry Lazaris and John Theofilopoulos, who were selected in the All Star Team, describing them as the foundation of the current group and the recent success the club has had.
