Preparations begin for 2010-11 Victorian Champions League

Preparations are beginning in earnest for the 2010-11 Victorian Champions League season, with Zone's set to reform or rebuild their working committees, coaches being appointed and trial dates being set over the coming weeks in readiness for an October 23/24, 2010 kick off.

Hoping to build on the growing success of the summer competition which began in 2008-09, Football Federation Victoria (FFV) will again host the League which brings together teams of Victoria’s most talented young players in a state-wide, representative environment, to further develop their skills and vie for Victorian State Squad selection.

The VCL, which received a major branding overhaul between the 2008-09 inaugural season and the one just passed to give the competition and its representative Zone Clubs a sharp, aspirational look and feel, has become a permanent and prominent fixture within the FFV calendar.

FFV Chief Executive Officer, Mark Rendell, is thrilled with success of the VCL competition, largely thanks to the support of the football community and volunteers at each Zone.

“We’re delighted with how the VCL grew from season one to season two, and how the football community embraced the representative League concept,” Mr Rendell said.

“The commitment of volunteer working committees within each Zone and support of coaches, players and their parents has been terrific, and we look forward to that continuing this season.”

Speaking on off-season developments with regards to the VCL, Mr Rendell highlighted partnerships with KFC and La Trobe University as being pivotal to the ongoing success of the League, and talented player identification and development in Victoria.

“To secure KFC as a partner of the talented player pathway in Victoria is wonderful.

“We’ve already seen them throw their support behind the VCL Championship Series and Gold Medal night, as well as the Victorian teams who have competed at this year’s National Championships.

“We look forward to working with them on the 2010-11 Season too.

“We’re also thrilled to be developing a unique partnership with La Trobe University which will see their Sport Management program support the League with student administrators.

“Our current group of Zone Club committees have been fantastic, but there can never be too many helpers in each Zone, so the students will add some administrative assistance whilst gaining some practical experience as part of their degree.”

The La Trobe partnership will be supported by FFV-delivered workshops for participating students, who will earn credit towards their degree for completing the VCL-specific subject.

With Zone Committees beginning to reform or rebuild for the new season, prospective players and their parents are encouraged to keep an eye on the FFV and VCL Zone Club websites for trial information which will begin to be released in weeks to come.

Prospective players and parents should also familiarise themselves with key information about the League, which can be found within the ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ section of the VCL website and VCL section of the FFV website, housed under the talented player tab.

Anyone interested in becoming involved in the VCL from an administrative or coaching perspective should email vcl@footballfedvic.com.au.
